But the emergency room is not a “first come, first serve” business — patients are seen in order of the severity of symptoms. The truth is, if you don’t belong in the ER, you’ll probably be the one waiting longest for care. Chronic conditions and prescription refills are not true emergencies. Many conditions can be handled faster (and better) by a primary care physician.
